Double Major: Criminal Justice and Sociology (66 credits)

NOTE: At least one-half of the credits in any major or minor program must be taken at Rutgers-Camden.

Criminal Justice Major

Criminal Justice Major Requirements (42 credits) (note: 'D' courses fulfill the university "diversity" requirement, 'G' denotes "global" courses)

  • 202:201 Criminal Justice in America
  • 920:207 Introduction to Sociology
  • any two of the following three introductory courses to components of the criminal justice system:
    • 202:202 Police & Policing
    • 202:203 Confinement & Corrections
    • 202:204 Courts & Criminal Law
  • 920:301 Methods & Techniques of Social Research
  • 920:316 Race & Ethnicity (D)   or   920:332 Social Stratification
  • 920:313 Theories of Crime & Delinquency
  • 202:449 Ethics & Policy in Criminal Justice
  • 18 credits of elective courses distributed as follows:
    • 12 credits in crime and/or criminal justice related courses from the offerings of criminal justice and sociology, e.g.:

  • Plus 18 additional credits in sociology, anthropology, or criminal justice, including at least 3 credits in anthropology.

    Students may use if they wish one of the following Urban Studies courses as one elective course (3 credits) for the sociology major: 975:102 (Approaches to Urban Studies); 975:104 (Power and Decision Making in Urban Communities); 975:204 (Poverty and Urban Environmental Systems); 975:339 (Housing and Planning Seminar); 975:413 (Urban and Regional Revitalization); and 975:478 (History of Planning Thought)
