Each semester, a faculty committee reviews the academic records of enrolled students and makes recommendations to the graduate program director for warning, probation, or dismissal of students. The graduate program director notifies students in writing of any action taken.The following requrements apply to students in the MA program as well as those in the dual MA/MPA program.
Students admitted after Spring 2011
Probation
A student is placed on probation if his or her cumulative grade-point average is less than 3.0. Students on probation are limited to a part-time load and class schedules must be approved by the graduate program director.
Dismissal
A student is dismissed from the program if his or her cumulative grade-point average falls below 3.0 after two semesters. Students dismissed or separated/suspended from the university or program for any reason who wish to resume the ptogram must apply for admission to the Graduate School Camden.
C Rule
No more than three courses with a grade of C or C+ are allowed in all courses taken at the Graduate School Camden. Students who have more than three courses with a grade of C or C+ are dismissed from the program.
Incomplete Grades
All of the rules of the Graduate School-Camden regarding incomplete grades apply to the program in criminal justice. To receive a grade, students must make up the incomplete within one year. Whereas a student may acquire two grades of Incomplete, a student who acquires a third incomplete is placed on probation and is required to appear before the criminal justice faculty review committee.
Transfer and Transient Credits
Students may apply to transfer up to 10 credits toward the criminal justice degree at the Graduate School-Camden provided they satisfy the conditions for transfer credits described in the section on Academic Policies and Procedures. Transient credits (courses taken at institutions other than Rutgers-Camden) must be approved by the Graduate School in writing prior to enrolling in the class. Transient credits are counted among the 10 transfer credits toward the criminal justice degree.
Matriculation Continued
Students who do not take classes for any semester prior to the completion of degree requirements maintain enrollment by registering each semester they are not taking courses in 56:202:800 Matriculation Continued.
Students admitted Spring 2011 or before
Warning
A student is warned if his or her total GPA falls below the minimum 3.0 before completion of 12 credits and is required to meet with the graduate program director to resolve any problems.
Probation
A student is placed on probation if he or she has not earned a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 after completion of 12 credits of coursework. Students on probation are limited to a part-time load, and class schedules must be approved by the graduate program director.
Dismissal
A student is subject to dismissal if he or she has not earned a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 after completion of 18 credits of coursework.
C Rule
All students are required to maintain a GPA of 3.0. No student may have more than 3 grades lower than a C+ and no more than 9 credits with a grade of C or C+ may be counted toward the master of arts in Criminal Justice.
