Selected Websites

We've selected several websites below that are particularly useful for students carrying out sociological research on the web. However, don't forget that many of the most useful online materials are only accessible through the Rutgers' libraries bibiographic databases. For tips and links, check out Library Resources Online. For web searching, we recommend Google, although you may also want to try Teoma, created by a Rutgers-New Brunswick mathematics professor.

American Sociological Association website provides links to several career-related resources, including the ASA pamphlet, Careers in Sociology, online. A good place to check out what you can do with a sociology degree! Click on the Students link along the top toolbar.

Academic Info provides nicely annotated and clearly-organized lists of academically-oriented websites for Sociology, for Anthropology, for Criminal Justice, and for a variety of other subjects.

Anthropology in the News has links to the latest news articles having to do with anthropology

Sociosite (Social Science Information System) is maintained by Albert Benschop at the University of Amsterdam and provides useful links for a wide variety of subject areas in sociology, anthropology and criminal justice

A Sociological Tour Through Cyberspace offers online essays with many hypertext links on a variety of fields in sociology

Dead Sociologists Index provides both original texts and commentaries about sixteen of sociology's major theorists--whose ideas remain very much alive.

Public Agenda is an excellent site for studying social problems. It provides frameworks for understanding relevant policy debates and provides a wealth of information about a variety of social problems.

Cecil Greek's CJ Page is the grand-daddy of them all for justice links

Resources for Methods in Evaluation and Social Research has links to many useful sites

Scientific Reserch on the Internet offers a broad array of tools for using the internet to carry out sociological research and also for the study of the internet itself.

RU Library Listing of Sociology Graduate Programs provides links to departmental webpages (good resource for students considering graduate school)
