Master's Program - Frequently Asked Questions
1. Question: Who should
I ask to write my letters of recommendation? Our
program, like nearly all graduate programs, requires letters
of recommendation as part of your application. These are an important
part of your file and a good letter can go a long way to
helping the admissions committee decide you would be a good
fit in our program. The best letters are usually those written
by former professors who can comment on your suitability
for studies in a research-oriented graduate program. I have
a separate page of advice for letter seeking and for those
who plan to write letters for our applicants here.
2.
Question: What
is the recommended sequencing for courses? We
recommend taking Research Methods and Data Analysis (statistics)
early in your graduate career because these two courses provide
a foundation that will help you understand the readings and
materials in future courses. Some students are tempted to
put Data Analysis off until the end of their studies. This
is unwise because Data Analysis provides an important groundwork
for later courses and putting it off too long can result
in delays taking the comps or finishing your graduate project
(depending on which route you choose). I recommend tackling
at least one required course a semester to give you greater
flexibility as you near graduation. Depending on your work
and family responsibilities, it may be unwise to tackle two
demanding requirements in the same semester. Instead, taking
one required course and an elective of your choice might
be a better solution.

and those offered by other regional schools?
2. How do I get admitted to (or find out more about) the Dual-Degree
option?
